What is a Gap Year Program?
Gap Year is not a remedial program.
It is designed for smart, capable students who have excellent academic potential but need a little more time before starting high school. Typical gap year students are aiming for enrollment in top level private high schools but choose to invest in an extra year of preparation to make sure they can be successful and confident when they begin 9th grade.
Gap Year curriculum is as rigorous and content-rich as 9th grade curriculum but teachers provide extra training and support for students. We "fill in the gaps" in a student's education and personal maturity. Gap students also benefit from coaching in conflict resolution and problem-solving through Council. The group travels frequently to develop stronger personal responsibility skills.
Gap Year curriculum encourages students to adopt a spirit of discovery and broaden their perspectives. They plan, budget and carry out several rigorous outdoor education trips each year. The group goes on frequent local excursions to practice field science, observe the judicial system in action, perform community service or explore the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
